Crafts for kids: Make Your Own Personalized ID

This is probably one of the easiest crafts I have ever come up with. Hope that you'll enjoy making it.

Directions: Cut out an 8 cm tall strip from a plain white A4 paper. Then divide it into two parts: One for the info and the other for drawing your picture. Write ID card on the top and your nickname underneath it. Then make up your own ID number and write that underneath your nickname. After that write down your hobbies or your favorite things. On the picture side draw yourself and then design your background.

Tasty Homemade Chocolate Cake

Hi everybody! 3eedkoom mubarak! The last time I wrote a recipe for a post was about two months ago, and I liked the idea. So, last time it was mini sandwiches (click here to see it) and today it's this very tasty Chocolate Homemade Cake.

Ingredients:

chocolate cake (If you don't know how to make chocolate cake you can either buy a ready plain one or make one with the easy mix from the grocery store. Size depends on your desire.)
whipped cream
smarties or m&m's

How to prepare:

Cut the chocolate cake in half. So, you'll have a top half and a bottom half. Then take the whipped cream and spread it on the top of the bottom half. Put just enough so that about two inches high. Make sure its spread equally around all the sides. Then put the top half on top of the cream and it'll look something like the picture underneath this.

Then make little roses with the bottle of whipped cream on top. (Mine melted so they're like little circles.) After that sprinkle the m&ms on the top.

Extras: I put m&ms on the side too.

Enjoy! PS: This would make the perfect dessert if you're having kids over in il-3eed.

I watched today's episode of zwarat 5ames and I was totally shocked. The events were too bizarre. How could the entire family fall apart suddenly? But, the most shocking thing of all is that zooz didn't want to marry 3ez. It's just like in Om Al-Banat, when Sherifa and her daughters escape. I don't think that Heba 7amada has any more surprises in store (since there are already too many of them,) but I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

CHINA: CLOTHES THAT CAUSE CANCER

Cancer-causing toxic dyes that were banned in 2006 were found in some clothing items that were made in China. The municipal bereau of commece and industry in Beijing reported that 65 clothings brands failed to meet quality standards. Some of the clothing items were from famous brands like Baoxinali and Jeanswest. The cancer-causing dye can not be washed out and is easily absorbed by the skin. All the clothes that were found to be harmful were withdrawed from stores.

I've been watching zwarat 5ames and I really liked it. But, I watched the second episode of Laylat eid and I was stunned. I didn't think that it'd be this good! If you still haven't watched it, here's a short summary: Laylat Eid is the story of Lulwa (Fara7) , a teenager who lives with her mother Munira (7ayat il-fahad) and her father and three brothers. They are a poor family who live in Kuwait in the 60's (I think), and Lulwa falls in love with '3anim, the son of a wealthy family that lives nearby. '3anim wants to marry Lulwa but his parents don't want him to. Instead, they make him marry the daughter of another wealthy family. On the day of their wedding, Munira finds out that Lulwa is pregnant with '3anim's daughter! Lulwa's elder brother, Dawood, who was just married was about to kill her if Munira didn't stop him. The acting is great and so is the story. But, after the 5th episode the setting changed and it's based in the current time. Lulwa turns into 7ayat il-fahad (because she's supposed to look like her mother when she's older) and now lives with her brother Dawood and his wife Sara. She is treated kindly be Sara, but is similar to a maid in the house. It's not as good now as it was two episodes ago, so if you're interested in watching it I recommend only watching the first five episodes. Click here to watch the episodes online.

Ramadan!

This is my favorite time of the year. I am hoping that tomorrow will be the first day of Ramadan. I just can't wait! Yesturday I was at the Avenues and posters were displayed of the TV series for Ramadan that were going to air Al-Watan TV. Four of the programs were in one poster. But one program was displayed in a whole poster. Guess which one? Zwarat 5ames! Hopefully it'll be just as good as I'm hoping it'll be. There are other signs that Ramadan is coming. Like always, Sultan Center and il-jam3iyat have put up decorations indicating the start of Ramadan. Il-masajid have also put up tents outside for praying since there will be a lot of people. Again, I love this time of the year!

One of the most things I look forward to in Ramadan is watching new TV series. After the big hit, Om Al Banat which was on last Ramadan, I am hoping that Zwarat 5ames will be just as great. The story seems pretty good. The writer is Heba Mishari 7amada, the same writer that wrote Om Al Banat. It airs on the first day of Ramadan at 4:00 pm on Al-Watan TV. 20 Years Since the Iraqi Invasion

Sorry that I haven't been posting for a while. In fact, I was supposed to post this yesturday, since it was the proper time to do it. If you still don't know what I'm talking about and haven't read the title for some reason: Yesturday, the 2nd of August was the exact date that the Iraqi troops invaded Kuwait 20 years ago. Certainly this isn't some sort of celebration, but we're remembering the awful events that had occured in Kuwait since that day. However, we will most certainly be celebrating on the 26th of February inshallah, the day that Kuwait became free once again.

I recently read this on 2:48am and thought that I'd warn anyone out there who uses Head and Shoulders that it has been written in Arab times that it has been proven that (Deuxan) is present in the shampoo and it causes cancer, cirrhosis and kidney fibrosis. They warned people from using Head and Shoulders. Actually, when I read this I tossed the shampoo in the trash. If you're using Head and Shoulders I hope that you stop using it soon because whatever good it's doing to your hair isn't worth the risk of getting cancer or cirrhosis and kidney fibrosis. I'm not sure if any of you know about this, but I just found out. Two sisters on Youtube, one is a 17 year old named Juicystar07 aka. Blair, and the other is 22 years old named allthatglitters21 aka. Elle. They started making video posts I think about a year ago. It has become so succesful that Blair had to get out of high school and be homeschooled to make enough videos. There are so many viewers that adore Blair and Elle. They have been featured in Good Morning America, clevver T.V, and Blair has attended New York Fashion Week in which she has been one of the make-up artists. Elle has been in the August issue of Seventeen Magazine. They are both beauty gurus. Blair has her own channel on Youtube now and so does Elle. Princess Academy

I just read the most amazing book by Shannon Hale. It's called Princess Academy and has earned a Newberry Award. It's about a 14 year old girl named Miri, who lives in Mount Eskel in Danland where they are not very rich and the population is quite small. They work in the quarry where they get linder and trade it for necessities for a living. She doesn't have a mother and lives with her father and sister Marda. Miri is also not very strong, and is quite petite, so her father doesn't allow her to work in the quarry. One day the king sends someone to announce that the prince of Danland shall marry a girl from Mount Eskel. An academy was to be held for a year to prepare the girls for the royal ball when the prince would pick a bride. All girls from 12-17 must attend. Since Marda isn't in that age group Miri goes alone with 20 other mountain girls. It's a great tale with a lot of excitement and enchantment and it's the perfect coming of age story. I recommend it for all pre-teen and teenage girls. Flying Chair 3000

I know that the picture is kind of sloppy, but that's the best I could do on Paint. I really wish that there was a chair like that! I'd never have to run again! I know a lot of you will say that if everyone had this chair we'll become fat and not excersize. But, we can use this chair only for long distance. Example: Instead of going to the mall by driving your car in the traffic, fly Flying Chair 3000! I know that probably a lot of people had the idea of a flying chair, but I didn't hear about that yet. I think this is the invention that I would want to be available in the future the most. What about you?

Saturday at the Avenues

I was at the Avenues yesturday in the afternoon and it was soooo crowded! Since today is a holiday I think that everyone decided to spend their afternoon there. I guess that there were even more people at night since they didn't have to worry about waking up early for work the next day. By the way, for those of you who didn't go out yesturday, the humidity was pretty much 100%. That was another reason for me to go to the Avenues since I couldn't even swim in that weather.

Pee Chee

I read about the Pee Chee in an old book called 6th grade can really kill you. It was used in the second half of the 20th century, and it's just a folder to store loose leaf papers. It's made of card stock and has the multiplication table inside and other math info. I was interested in the Pee Chee because I was surprised by the name and also that I didn't know about it. Apparently, people stopped using it as commonly but it is available from Mead starting this year.

Mini Sandwiches

Sorry I havn't been able to post lately. This is a new kind of post: a Recipe. I hope that you can leave a comment saying if you liked this post or not.

I got this a recipe from a friend and it's sooo delicious! So..here it is:

Mini Sandwiches

Ingredients:

White toast

Lettuce

Slice cheese (preferably Anchor)

Mayonnaise (preferably Heinz)

How to prepare:

Take two pieces of toast. First, cut off the lining of the toast, then spread mayonnaise (not too much, just enough so that it'll almost cover the piece.) Then put one slice off cheese on top of the mayonnaise. After that, put lettuce over the cheese.(Make sure the lettuce covers the entire piece toast.) Then, put the other piece of toast over them and divide the sandwich into 4 mini sandwiches.

Extras:

You can put a tooth pick over every mini sandwich and put a slice of cucumber after that.

if these sandwiches seem like something that you wouldn't like to eat, always remember that it doesn't hurt to try!

I just found out about this great new game called The Great Indian Arranged Marriage. I think that every person who decides to play it will find it fun and exciting. There are many levels that you have to go through so that the indian man and woman can get married. The first stage is a phone call. The couple talk to each other and you have to pick the things that they say to each other. The second level is when he invites her to dinner before they're engaged. You have to pick the right clothes that they'll wear. There are about 4 or 5 levels after that and they get harder as you go. Normally, I wouldn't be interested in such events because I really don't care that much about soccer. However, I noticed that a lot of places and companies in Kuwait are interested in this event so here's an image relating to the world cup in Souq Sharq:

Temperature reaches 50C in Kuwait!

I cannot believe that the temperature is this high! I'm guessing that it's because of the ozone layer. Anyways, this was mentioned in one of the newspapers today. Our tarsheed average has reached its maximum! Any minute now there might be no electricity. I don't blame anyone for using this much power (mostly for airconditioning of course.) I mean, who wouldn't when the temparature is this high?! However, I do encourage that we start using less power, so that we won't be at risk of having no power at all.

Hi...the school year is ending and for those people who are stuck at home studying for upcoming final exams, here are great ways to relax and take time off of studying:

1. after every one and a half hours of studying write down what you have accomplished, that way at the end of the day you can read what you have accomplished and feel good about yourself.

2. at meal times don't just eat and think about what to study next, forget all that stress and try to enjoy this time by watching t.v. while eating to take your mind of studying. you can even use the computer, but don't overuse it. that way you'll waste a lot of your time.

3. at night read a book if reading is your hobby, play video games, or even watch a new movie. however, you've got to keep in mind that you can't stay up too long, because if you're really planning on studying you've got to get a good night's sleep.

4. if any of you are bloggers like me, then i recommend that instead of doing num.3 write something new in your blog or look at other blogs since that's one of your hobbies.

have you ever visited someone and looked around to find that their room seems to be bursting with chocolate gifts. well, that's only because the first thing people think of when they go visit someone who's sick is bringing chocolate along. when bringing a gift along you've got to think- different. the two most common and boring things you can bring along are flowers and chocolate. just imagine about 10 boxes of chocolate and tons of roses and other kinds of flowes all around the room. then you look down at your hands and find that you're holding flowers and chocolate too. it sounds pathetic, doesn't it?

if you don't know about this, it is a website where you can make your own buddy (boy or girl) and then you cn shop for clothes, food and supplies for your very own home with millsbucks. they also have a newsletter and a citizen of the month.

this website is for girls only. there's a book that you can read online, you can meet the pls, and guess what?! they have their own blog! you can create your own locker and meet the pls members!

this requires membership by buying a toy that has a username and password to enter. Limited Too (Justice) used to sell it, but i'm not sure that they still do. anyways, its lots of fun. you get to pick your animal according to the toy you bought. if you bought a penguin like me, your animal will be a penguin. you can make your own home, feed the toy and go to the doctor if it gets sick.

Tips on How to Deal with Your Siblings

i have a lot of experience where siblings are involved. so here are some tips from me to u. hope it helps!

incase of a problem or an argument....

do NOT tell your parents or threaten to tell your parents unless the sibling is under 6 years old (unless they hit u, that is totally different)

act very calmly and act as if you can't hear what they are saying (the point of this is that they'll get really angry and frustrated. in about 2 minutes they'll calm down and go away)

if they hit you do NOT hit them back! go immediatly to your mother or father, whoever is more strict in this area, and tell them what happened. your sibling will have nothing to say against you. you'll be able to win the fight instantly!

if they start telling lies about you or making fun of you, laugh along and make some jokes and fibs about them in a very calm and happy voice. (this will help them forget that their against you, they might also feel what you felt when they lied and made fun of u.)

if you're having a good day together...

take total advantage of it! you've got to talk to them about how it's gr8 not to fighting. V.I (very important): do not say anything against them while you're talking about this

try to make the most of it if you fight frequently. ask them to do a fun activity with you like painting, hair braiding(girls), play-doh(if they're young), and any other type of arts and crafts. aviod any activity that might cause a problem between both of you.

remember your siblings are one of the treasures in life. try not to tell them stuff like: "i hate you etc..." they're very valuable and you can never feel that unless you lose them. so try to remind yourself when you're in a fight that they are one of the best things you have in life. you are so fortunate if you have siblings.. if you don't, i really hope that you're close to your cousins.

American Eagle Opens in Avenues Mall, Kuwait

On thursday night (yesturday) American Eagle Outfitters opened its doors in The Avenues Mall, Kuwait. I wasn't fortunate enough to see the opening night. However, I was able to go today. This is the first branch American Eagle opened in Kuwait. It is right infront of Gap. The clothes are fabulous and the whole store seems so elegant and comfy. However, the lines infront of the cashier are sooo long! it takes about 15 minutes until you can get a turn. the staff are overly nice and excited, so i guess they still havn't experienced how much work they'll have to do because of all those customers! The customers were a mix of Kuwaitis and Americans. i guess that they're pretty fond of that store. Anyways, i am so grateful that i'm not going at night! the Avenues will be crowded with people and people will probably have to wait 35 minutes to have a turn. If you're ever at the Avenues go check out American Eagle. Don't forget to go in the morning so that shopping will be a lot easier and pleasurable.
